Lester Ralph Philip Rickard was born with an English heritage in Portland, Oregon. After high school he set off for Europe going through London and Paris, bound for the famous jewelry manufacturing centers in Italy. Centered in the Venuto area of Italy are the comprising cities of Vicenza, Verona and Venice. Here he studied the historical transitions of jewelry, and was influenced by the renaissance period in Europe. Today he still travels the world extensively for research, equipment and cutting edge jewelry procedures that he brings back to his Honolulu factory. London has been continuous for research and inspiration behind the early scroll designs and enameling jewelry, which began there in the early Middle Ages. Today Philip Rickard Honolulu has six retail stores in the Hawaiian Islands, web sites in English and Japanese and a manufacturing and customer service location in Tokyo. Moving to Hawaii after a compelling vision in 1971, he worked construction jobs while saving to purchase equipment, and outfit a workshop. In 1986, he opened his first retail store in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. When asked to write the story of the Hawaiian Jewelry in 1987, he didnt realize the endeavor would take six years and many trips to England to uncover the true nature of the jewelry, its history and origins. In 1993, his book A Lasting Remembrance was published and brought to light the rich history of the Hawaiian Jewelry. At the Factory and Museum location in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, Philip works with sixty jewelers, craftsman, and professional technicians manufacturing Hawaiian Heirloom jewelry, sold in Hawaii and shipping all over the world. Philip Rickard Honolulu has grown to be the Premiere Manufacturer of World Class Hawaiian Jewelry. This beautiful jewelry is made in many different gold colors and platinum which feature the deep carved scrolling patterns, rich enameled names, and inlays.
