We became full time silver and goldsmiths in 1970 when we returned to Wisconsin after teaching junior high school art in New Mexico. At that time we established the Sandhill Folk Company in the rural hills of Southwest Wisconsin. Our pieces are a fabrication of sterling silver, 14k gold and a combination of the two. The fact that we are self-taught gives our work a different feel than that of the modern styles created by many of todays jewelers. Not only do we strive to create pieces of beauty we are also interested in giving the pieces a spirit, a feeling of their own. Design, texture and depths are created with various gauges and layers of metal in conjunction with different shapes of wire. We incorporate color through the use of exotic woods, shells, and stones (precious and semi-precious) either with inlay or by using faceted and cabochon stones. Ron does the main designing, fabrication, stone setting and inlaying and oversees the studio. Donna does the sawing and piercing and takes care of the business side of the studio while also coming into her own design wise. We share in the finishing process of the pieces. We market our work through our home studio, private showings, art fairs state wide and nationally, and in galleries. We have resided on our farm in the Kickapoo River Valley since 1970 where we raised our two children who are now grown thus giving us new freedom to create and to travel with our craft.
