Eric Van Peterson was born in Columbus, Ohio. He first came to the UK as a law student. During his college years he found that his passion for art and design grew as he backpacked his way across Europe. Eric met his wife Lyn in the original Hard Rock Café and in the late 1970s they started out selling vintage clothes and objets dart in Camden Lock Market, alongside the likes of Annie Lennox and Anita Roddick, creator of the Body Shop. Success inspired them to open their first stand alone store, an antique shop near Sloane Square, where they specialised in selling Art Deco and Art Nouveau ceramics and jewellery.
