Steel Skin has its roots in sunny Southern California. In 1996, founder and owner Dennis Kaping was running a piercing studio where he found himself discontent with the quality and availability of body jewelry. At that time the piercing industry was still young and options were few. The son of a dentist, Dennis was familiar with the qualities of dental acrylic and got it in his head that he could introduce the material to body jewelry and produce a superior product. Dental Acrylic is both strong and bio-compatible, not to mention available in a variety of colors. This innovative idea launched Steel Skin and was a catalyst to other innovations such as the dental acrylic balls (dental acrylic cast around a special threaded insert) and our famous one-piece ball design (each ball is machined from a single piece of 316 LVM or Titanium 6AL 4V Eli). For over 8 strong years Steel Skin has done business in this exact spirit of innovation and is committed to providing the piercing community with premium quality unique designs. We are still located in southern California and are proud to say that 100% of our jewelry is manufactured right here in the USA.
